I'm glad you liked Midnight in Paris. In response to your reblog, I've seen Sleeper, but not Manhattan. How does Manhattan compare to Midnight in Paris? This has to be my favorite since his stuff with Diane Keaton. Romantic, but not cheesy like a chick flick. :)
If you liked Midnight in Paris, you’ll love Manhattan. In some ways, Midnight is a lighter version of Manhattan that takes place abroad. Keaton is in Manhattan, as a matter of fact. Meryl Streep is in there, too, who is as good as ever.
The opening shots in Manhattan is parallel to that of Midnight. It begins with Woody Allen narrating over a montage of New York City about his love for the city.
The film is also a romantic dramady that is by no means cheesy like a chick flick. In addition to to a love story between a man and two women, it’s a love letter to a city he loves. It’s probably in my top fifteen favorite films, maybe even top ten.
Plus, it’s in black and white.
Additional trivia: to preserve the composition and aspect ratio, it was one of the first films shown on TV and video in letterbox format.
